Zinedine Zidane's next job now clear after Manchester United 'snub'
Zinedine Zidane could finally get his dream job just months after being linked with becoming Manchester United manager.
Zidane has been out of work since leaving his role as Real Madrid boss in 2021. Ever since, rumours have been swirling claiming that Zidane could become United manager, with the speculation first surfacing before the appointment of Erik ten Hag almost three years ago.
United were once again linked with appointing Zidane last summer amid uncertainty around Ten Hag's future. The Dutchman ended up remaining in the Old Trafford before being replaced by Ruben Amorim in November, but at the time there were continued links that Zidane could be the next boss at Old Trafford.
It was confirmed on Wednesday, though, that France manager Didier Deschamps is set to leave his role as the country's manager. Deschamps revealed that he will leave his role following the conclusion of the World Cup in 2026.

“I’ve been here since 2012, I’m scheduled until 2026, the next World Cup, but it will stop there because it has to stop at some point,” Deschamps French TV channel TF1.
He added: “It could be (seen as) an announcement, even though I’m not here for that. I’ve done my time with the same desire, the same passion to keep the French team at the highest level, but 2026 is very good.
“To have been here already for as many years as I have, and to go until 2026, that will be 14 years so that will be a lot.
“We never want it to end when it’s a beautiful thing, but we also have to know how to say stop, there is a life after. I don’t know what it will be, but it will be very good too. Afterwards, the most important thing is that the French team remains at the top, as it has been for many years.”
There have been reports in recent years suggesting that Zidane has yet to return to management as he waits to take the job in charge of his country's national team. ESPN reported back in 2021 that the World Cup winner would wait for the France job to become available rather than take another role in club management.
With Deschamps set to leave his role as France head coach next year, rumours are already surfacing that Zidane could be his successor.
