Manchester United welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon looking to build upon a positive start to 2025.

United kicked off the year with a 2-2 draw away at Premier League leaders Liverpool before going to Arsenal in the FA Cup third round and winning via a penalty shootout.

They continued their unbeaten start to 2025 on Thursday evening when a 12-minute hat-trick from Amad Diallo rendered Manuel Ugarte's own goal a mere consolation in their 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League.

The three points lifted Ruben Amorim's side up to 12th in the Premier League table but they are still nine points adrift of the European places and 12 points behind fourth placed Newcastle in the race to qualify for next season's Champions League.

If Amorim still harbours ambitions of qualifying for Europe next season through the Premier League then United must build on the foundation they have laid so far this year.

And that starts with the visit of Brighton, who head into the match five points clear of United in the Premier League table.

Amorim will be without four players for the visit of the Seagulls but there is a chance he mixes things up and makes some changes from the team who beat Southampton.

Andre Onana will retain his place in goal, while Harry Maguire will likely return to the back three in place of Leny Yoro, joining Matthijs De Ligt and Lisandro Martinez in United's backline.

Noussair Mazraoui will move back across to right-wing-back and Diogo Dalot will come back into the side at left-wing-back after he served a one match suspension against the Saints.

Ugarte will maintain his place in the midfield and he will be joined by Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role. Amad will move from right-wing-back into an attacking midfield role and he will be joined by Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine international has been linked with a move away from United amid Napoli and Chelsea interest but he is not agitating for a move himself. Amorim could give him another opportunity and Kobbie Mainoo could make way after he was replaced at half-time in the Southampton win.

Up front, Rasmus Hojlund has gone eight games without scoring a goal and Joshua Zirkzee could replace him as a reward for three excellent performances in 2025.
