Zlatan Ibrahimovic reveals same transfer agony as Nottingham Forest
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed he suffered the same striker transfer frustration as Nottingham Forest over Santiago Gimenez.
Forest failed in a bid to sign the Mexico international last summer as he stayed at Feyenoord and Ibrahimovic says AC Milan were also thwarted in their attempts to buy him before the start of this season, before landing the 23-year-old before the end of the January transfer window.
Speaking at Gimenez’s unveiling in Milan, Ibrahimovic, a senior advisor at the Italian club, said: "We've been following him closely and tried for him in the summer, but the opportunity wasn't there. We're very happy that he's here, he possesses real quality, especially inside the penalty area, and is hungry to score goals.

“We'll give him all the support necessary to help him perform at his best and deliver results. The fact we'll be facing Feyenoord in the Champions League play-offs almost feels like destiny.”
On joining AC, Gimenez said: "One of my dreams as a child was to play in Europe, and now my goal is to leave a mark at such a historic club as this one. I couldn't be more ready.
“My only focus is on playing; the negotiations were handled by the people who look after me. I promise to give 100%; I'll do everything I can.
“We have a strong and competitive team, and the group is far more important than individuals. I feel the responsibility, and it's amazing to be here at AC Milan.
“One of my idols is Ibrahimović. I’m a player who brings passion and power, and I'll work every day to improve. I have great motivation to achieve ambitious goals. I feel that this Club is the perfect fit for me; it'll be thrilling, and I’m proud to represent Mexico here."
