Joe Rodon and Leeds United are now just one game away from a Premier League return. Unfortunately missing out on automatic promotion to the top flight with Leicester City and Ipswich Town finishing above the West Yorkshire club, Daniel Farke's side were consigned to a third-place finish.

Enduring a wretched record in the play-offs in years gone by, Leeds supporters were fearing the worst going into their semi-final tie against Norwich City. However, they needn't have worried after blowing the Canaries away 4-0 on Thursday evening following a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road four days earlier.

Leeds will now play Southampton or West Brom in the richest game in football with a place in the Premier League up for grabs. Delivering such a strong performance in Leeds' stalemate with Norwich last weekend, Rodon followed it up with another excellent display to help his loan club get over the line.

In Leeds Live's player ratings, Rodon was one of seven players to come away with a score of nine out of ten. They wrote: "Commanding and set the tone with some massive interceptions and tackles in the first half, deep in the away half too. Never put in bother. So important for snuffing out danger and getting possession moving forward again."

Rodon will now be looking to deliver another huge performance when Leeds play either Southampton or West Brom at Wembley on Sunday, May 26. Given he is on loan from Tottenham, it remains to be seen if the play-off final will be his last game for Leeds.

Farke wants to sign the Wales international on a permanent basis this summer, which is no surprise at all given how well he has performed at the heart of defence over the course of the season. Leeds supporters have been extremely vocal about Rodon signing a long-term deal but a permanent move may well hinge on what division the play-off finalists are playing in come August.

For Rodon, a permanent move to Leeds will be a no-brainer if they are to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Someone who is loved at Elland Road and such a key player in the team, the 26-year-old would have the opportunity to play week in, week out in the Premier League.

That is something he never had the chance to do at Tottenham after only starting eight of his 15 Premier League appearances for the north London club. Jose Mourinho was the only Spurs boss to hand the defender a start in the league, with Ryan Mason, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte all opting against doing so.

If Leeds are to triumph at Wembley Stadium a week on Sunday, the Whites will receive a considerable cash injection for reaching the Premier League. According to analysis from Deloitte's Sport Business Group 12 months ago prior to the play-off final between Luton Town and Coventry City, they reported that the winner would earn an increase in revenue of at least £170million across the next three seasons.

That eye-watering figure would rise to more than £290million if the club avoids relegation after the first season in the Premier League. Deloitte's analysis comprised of increases to commercial and matchday revenues and secured central Premier League revenues relating to broadcasting rights (c.£90million) during the 2023/24 season. If a club is to be relegated after one season, they would receive parachute payments (c.£80million) for the following two campaigns.

Providing that Leeds do win promotion to the Premier League, Farke's side will have money available to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. That in turn could lead to Rodon making the permanent move from Tottenham, with many at Leeds no doubt hoping that is the first deal the club sign off in what will be a key summer for the football club.

Even if a permanent Leeds United transfer does not come to fruition for the Welshman, Rodon's time at Tottenham will very likely draw to a close as he gets set to enter the final 12 months of his Spurs contract. Whatever comes next for the player, he has enjoyed a very successful 2023/24 campaign and Spurs should not be short of suitors for him over the course of the summer.
