Ange Postecoglou doubles down on Tottenham criticism from 'irrelevant' Liverpool legends
Ange Postecoglou has once again dismissed criticism of his Tottenham side from Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp following defeat to Liverpool, having insisted his team is an easy target.
Spurs have come in for heavy criticism after they gave up a 1-0 advantage in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, succumbing to a 4-0 defeat at Anfield as Arne Slot’s side advanced to a final against Newcastle at Wembley.
The manner in which Postecoglou’s side fell to defeat, without registering a single shot on target on Merseyside, led former Liverpool stars Carragher and Redknapp to tear into Spurs at full-time. The former insisted that the result was never in doubt - even before the game - and even suggested that League Two side Accrington Stanley had proven to be tougher opponents when they visited Anfield in the FA Cup last month.

Redknapp, meanwhile, called Tottenham’s performance “horrendous”, adding: “I can't remember in my lifetime a team go down with less of a fight than Tottenham did today.”
Postecoglou though insists he’s taking no notice of Liverpool’s former stars - not for the first time this season - having been asked whether he will use the criticism as fuel for his players against Aston Villa this weekend.
“No, because I don't know which people I'm meant to be proving wrong,” Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“I said last night, it's irrelevant to me what other people's opinions are. People are on the TV and the radio and in the newspapers to give opinions and I respect that. They're allowed to do that but I don’t have any obligation to listen to any of it.
“To get fuelled by the comments of people I’ve never even met, I don’t know how you live your life, but I certainly don't live my life that way. That's with all respect that they're there to give an opinion.
“It's not like I want to be successful here so I can go to these people and say to them: ‘oh, look, you were wrong’. I don't even know them. Why would I care where they think we're at? They're a million miles away from us, but they're allowed to have their opinion.
“We're an easy mark at the moment and, look, after last night, there are times you've just got to take it, keep your counsel and atone for it in the way that only really matters and that is with playing the football I know we can.”
Liverpool.com says: Postecoglou needs to realize that there’s a reason his side has become an easy target for pundits. It’s because, to put it bluntly, they’re awful.
You won’t find many people, apart from Gary Neville, who thought Liverpool wouldn’t win last night. Few would have expected it to be quite as easy as it was though. The Reds were superb, but they were helped by an absolutely toothless Spurs side that never looked like they were going through, even when they were ahead on aggregate.
