Arne Slot makes 'definite' Liverpool transfer promise after Jamie Carragher prediction
Arne Slot has revealed Liverpool is working on making new signings for the summer - although it’s looking doubtful that there will be any additions before the end of the January transfer window.
With just a few days to go until we reach the February 3 deadline, Liverpool is yet to make any moves in the transfer market since the turn of the year. As things stand, it’s looking like the Reds are set for another quiet window.
That’s after just two players were signed last summer, with only one of them arriving at Anfield this season. Federico Chiesa was the sole addition to the current squad after a $15.6m (£12.5m/€14.9m) switch from Juventus, while Giorgi Mamardashvili will follow later this year after agreeing a $31m (£25m/€30m) move from Valencia.

The lack of transfers has proven to be an issue among many supporters, with FSG and sporting director Richard Hughes coming under more scrutiny this season despite Liverpool’s success so far. Slot though has defended the club’s approach, and has insisted that - while no business looks likely before deadline day next week, there is work going on behind the scenes ahead of the summer.
"Liverpool should always be competing for a league title, we should always be competing for the Champions League,” Slot told BBC Sport. “I'm hoping I will be able to keep the club at that level.
"I know people sometimes question this because they haven't seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well. There's a reason for that - because we're happy with the squad.
"But I do know we're definitely working on strengthening in the summer."
Slot’s comments come after Jamie Carragher predicted the Reds would have plenty of money to spend on transfers over the summer. The former defender has called for Liverpool to sign a new defender this month, although he looks to have accepted no business is now likely.
"If you talk about a coach, sometimes a coach is not just buying players, it’s actually improving the players he inherited," Carragher said on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet. "If you look at Slot, Ryan Gravenberch looks a different player, Luis Diaz looks a different player, Cody Gakpo looks a different player. So, he’s had an influence there.
"These are players that were bought 18 months ago. But there’s no doubt in the fact that Liverpool haven’t bought anyone this window and didn’t really buy anyone in the summer... there must be a big pot of money there to buy whoever they want next summer."
