Arne Slot replacement fired as Liverpool boss' impact becomes crystal clear
While Arne Slot has enjoyed a dream start to life at Liverpool, things haven’t been going so well at his former club. In fact, his replacement at Feyenoord hasn’t even managed to see out a full season.
The Rotterdam club has announced it has fired manager Brian Priske, with the decision coming due to “very inconsistent results and a lack of chemistry”. Priske is followed out of the exit door by his assistants Lukas Babalola Andersson and Bjorn Hamberg, with Feyenoord expecting to announce a new interim staff on Tuesday.
Having finished runner-up to PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie and won the the KNVB Cup under Slot last season, Feyenoord has not been able to reach the same heights under Priske. The Dane leaves the club in fifth in the league, having already lost more games than they did last season under Slot, and having exited the cup against PSV last week.

A 3-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam at the weekend wasn’t enough to save Priske’s job, with the former Sparta Prague boss having also guided them to the Champions League play-off round. It’s a stark contrast to Slot’s start at Anfield, where - despite hopes of a quadruple ending with a shock defeat to Plymouth in the FA Cup - Liverpool are on course to win the Premier League, while also being in the Carabao Cup final and last-16 in Europe.
“It is very disappointing for all parties that we had to come to this decision,” Feyenoord’s general and technical director Dennis te Kloese said. “Although Feyenoord has certainly achieved impressive results with Brian in the UEFA Champions League, the past few months have been far too inconsistent and we unfortunately see too little structural progress.
“As a professional and as a person, I still hold Brian in high regard. Sometimes, however, you have to conclude that despite everyone's good intentions and intentions, it does not work, and at a certain point there is no longer enough support within all levels to continue.”
Liverpool.com says: That line about a “lack of chemistry” is particularly damning for Priske. On the face of it, you could argue he hasn’t been given enough time at Feyenoord, but the fact they included that in their statement says a lot - and not just about Priske.
To have made the decision to fire him at this stage, especially after a convincing win at the weekend, tells you all you need to know about Slot’s impact at the club. Even after a weekend in which the Dutchman has faced his first set of serious questions over his selection at Plymouth, we’ve once again been handed a reminder that Liverpool made the perfect appointment after Jurgen Klopp’s departure.
