Arsenal injury update: Gabriel Martinelli, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jurrien Timber latest news and return dates
Arsenal enjoyed an excellent weekend in the Premier League ahead of their Champions League revenge mission against Porto.
Kai Havertz sent the Gunners top of the table with a late winner against Brentford on Saturday evening and Mikel Arteta’s side stayed there following Liverpool’s draw with Manchester City a day later.
Attention now turns to the European stage. Arsenal trail Porto by one goal after a disappointing loss in Portugal last month as they look to reach a Champions League quarter-final for the first time in 14 years.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest on Arsenal injuries.
Gabriel Martinelli
The forward missed Saturday’s win over Brentford after being forced off during the 6-0 win over Sheffield United.
While Arteta stressed the Brazilian had only suffered a cut, reports suggest he was spotted wearing a protective boot at the Emirates on Saturday.
Potential return date: Unknown
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Takehiro Tomiyasu has not played since the loss to Fulham on New Year’s Eve but Arteta has confirmed the defender is closing in on a return to action.
“He (Tomiyasu) is very close,” he said last week. “He’s already doing something on the grass and hopefully we’re going to have him very close with us.”
Potential return date: March/April 2024
Jurrien Timber
Summer signing Jurrien Timber endured a nightmare debut back in August when he suffered a serious knee injury.
He has, however, recently returned to training with his team-mates and there is hope he could play before the end of the season.
