Disclaimer: I am disproportionately interested in footballers’ hair. I have no idea why, it probably stems back to some childhood trauma in the barbers of some sort.

Anyway, after working on a Mick McCarthy story looking back over the highs and lows of the former Ipswich manager’s career – having quit with immediately effect on Tuesday night – I realised he used to have hair.

Obviously he has hair now but while these days is looks like the feathery neck to a coat Liberace would have worn, back in the 1980s he looked like a fresh-faced boyband member.
