Breaking: Manchester United suffer new injury blow as Lisandro Martinez leaves pitch in tears
Manchester United have been handed a major injury blow during their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.
United were taking on the Eagles at Old Trafford as they aimed to secure an important three points. However, Ruben Amorim was handed a major injury blow to his squad in the second half of the contest.
Lisandro Martinez was withdrawn after what appeared to be a potential knee injury in the second half. The United centre-back went to ground and was immediately clutching at his knee before signalling to the bench that he would need to be substituted.

A stretcher was brought onto the Old Trafford pitch to aid Martinez as he was substituted, where he was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt in the 82nd minute. The injury came just minutes after United conceded the opening goal of the game to Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta who put the visitors 1-0 up, with the striker then adding another in the 89th minute to hand United a 2-0 defeat.
Martinez appeared to be in tears as he was carried off the pitch on a stretcher by the United medical staff. Amorim will be expected to provide an update on the injury suffered by Martinez when he speaks to the media in a post-match press conference and TV interviews.
This would not be the first serious injury that Martinez would have suffered during his United career since his arrival from Ajax in 2022. The Argentina international suffered a foot injury last season that kept him on the sidelines for more than three months, and also suffered a knee injury that ruled him out for several weeks in February last year.
It remains to be seen how long Martinez could be sidelined for because of the latest injury blow. If the defender is unavailable for any length of time it would leave Amorim with De Ligt, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof as their fit senior centre-backs, with Jonny Evans missing the clash against Palace.
