Chelsea player ratings vs Newcastle: Mykhailo Mudryk and Malo Gusto shine in Blues' resurrection

Kieran Trippier's last-minute error and penalty miss saw Chelsea through to the Carabao Cup semi-finals at Newcastle's expense.

Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk all scored their spot-kicks, with goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic saving Matt Ritchie's effort at Stamford Bridge.

Earlier on, Callum Wilson had latched onto Levi Colwill's sloppy back pass before stumbling past both Thiago Silva and Benoit Badiashile to open the scoring in the 16th minute.

Trippier returned the favour in the 92nd minute, with an abject touch in the box allowing Mykhailo Mudryk to equalise at the death.

Nizaar Kinsella was at Stamford Bridge witnessing the drama unfold...

Djordje Petrovic - 7

Wilson's one-on-one effort was unsaveable but in the shootout he made a superb stop to win the game.

Axel Disasi - 6

At right-back he, at least, didn't make the same mistakes his defensive colleagues made.

Thiago Silva - 5

He was too weak when closing down Wilson before Badiashile's mistake allowed him to score. But didn't let his mistake get in his head.

Benoit Badiashile - 4

He dawdled on the ball in his own penalty area to allow Wilson to score. His head went after the mistake, dragging down his performance.

Levi Colwill - 4

His overhit pass allowed Wilson a run at goal to open the scoring, then got injured in a tackle with the striker and came off at half-time.

Enzo Fernandez - 5

The midfielder didn't have any impact before going off with illness after just 32 minutes.

Moises Caicedo - 5

Lucky to survive a potential red card incident after a studs-up challenge on Anthony Gordon with no VAR in play.

Conor Gallagher - 7

Gallagher curled a wonderful shot onto the crossbar, with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka well beaten, early on. He also was impressive battling in midfield and smashed a wonderful penalty into the top corner.

Cole Palmer - 7

His beautiful ball-striking ability was a threat in his shots, crosses and clever passes. Netted the first penalty with conviction.

Nicolas Jackson - 5

The striker switched to the left wing after Fernandez went off ill and dragged a second-half shot wide.

Raheem Sterling - 7

Sterling curled a great effort just wide and had another moment later where he faked a shot before driving another at Dubravka. He was the most dangerous attacking player throughout.

Substitutes

Armando Broja - 5

He produced a good finish shortly after coming on but was caught offside. His running power proved a threat.

Malo Gusto - 8

He made a good impact from the bench at both left-back and right-back, delivering real quality throughout.

Christopher Nkunku - 6

His remit was simple: to score and his headed effort was at least on target in the 83rd minute. He couldn't save the day in open play but did bag his penalty in the shootout with conviction.

Mykhailo Mudryk - 7

The Ukrainian was involved in the action throughout his cameo, scoring an equaliser after a mistake from Trippier.
