Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has been subject of transfer interest with Premier League rivals Chelsea being the frontrunners in negotiations - but United fans in the Manchester Evening News comments section are hesitant to do any business with the London club.

Serie A heavyweights Napoli were the first club to show interest, seeking a replacement winger after the departure of Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but had a £40million offer knocked back earlier in the January transfer window. United are said to be holding out for a figure more like £60million, and Chelsea are reported to be preparing a bid as the end of the window looms.

Garnacho's sale would represent bumper a profit for Manchester United, after signing him for £420,000 as a youth player from Atletico Madrid in 2021. But some MEN readers think that £60million for Garnacho from Chelsea is not nearly enough, considering what has come the other way in the past.

Commenter Teejau writes: “Selling him to Chelsea will not be good. What I, however, find scandalous are the amounts being quoted by the media. We spent £55million on buying Mount from Chelsea, where he had spent most of the entire season injured and had less than a year in his contract. If we must sell to Chelsea, it should not be less than £90million.”

Reader Garth123 says: “The minimum amount the club should be accepting is at the very least the amount they paid for Mason Mount, i.e. around £60m, as Garnacho has more potential. He is also currently more useful to Amorim than what Mason Mount is currently, or perhaps ever will be if Mount has become injury prone.”

1968red would not entertain any kind of swap deal: “Don't really see the need to sell Garnacho now. Chelsea links are becoming farcical, like the Mason Mount deal we would be buying players that don't get game time at Chelsea because of their bloated squad. Maresca says he has the players he needs for his system, so how much game time would Garnacho get if he went to Chelsea?”

Chungu says: “If we can't afford to buy any new players, fine. Let's keep him, he's not for sale. We really need manpower at this point of time and it doesn't make sense to sell when you don't have many players like him. He's a game changer, all Amorim needs to do is play the boy in the wings, especially the left wing and not inside of the pitch.”

Johnaod replies: “The problem United have is no one wants to buy any of the other players. If you 'NEED' money, it has to be him. Garnacho is a decent player, would be a big loss and, and we would be selling them an improvement on Mount for less than they paid for Mount.”

Tt84 writes: “Garnacho is a decent player. He's not perfect, but he creates chances, he scores, he has the ability to change a game. He's not perfect and I hope he is not the finished article. But he is not someone we should be selling.

“Do we actually need to sell? Nothing I have read suggests we do, it has all been a case of sell-to-buy. Well don't buy. Let's ride out this season, we could bring in the 11 best players in the world, we still wont be in the Champions League so let's just accept this is our low point.”
