Manchester United will hope £25m transfer decision won't backfire in Fulham clash
As Manchester United's search for a midfielder rumbled on in the summer, it led them to explore a move for Norway international midfielder Sander Berge.
United made contact with Burnley over a possible deal for the 26-year-old and it is believed the former Sheffield United midfielder was keen on a move to Old Trafford. Despite the Clarets' relegation from the Premier League, Berge had impressed in his only season at Turf Moor and it was believed a £25million move could have been struck.
However, as it transpired, United landed their number one midfield target Manuel Ugarte and their interest in Berge was ended. He made the move to Fulham for £25million instead and he has been at the heart of Marco Silva's side positive start to the season.

The Cottagers head into tomorrow's clash with United seven points clear of Ruben Amorim's side and Berge will be keen to show United what they have missed out on. The former Genk star has made 17 appearances for Fulham and has established himself as an important player in the heart of their midfield.
He returned to the side in last Saturday's 2-0 win over Leicester City after missing four weeks of action through injury and now he has his sights on extending the gap between Fulham and United and proving he made the right move in the summer.
"They have world class players, no doubt about that, and they beat City away, beat Arsenal away and drew with Liverpool, so that shows the potential of that team," Berge said ahead of the clash.
"It will give them extra confidence and they can turn the game around at any minute so we have to be at our very best. It is a big game under the lights and these are the games you want to play.
"It is a game where we want to go out and show who we are. It is a prime time with plenty of expectation. It is a special game playing Manchester United.
"I feel at home here, it is a great club and I have fantastic team-mates. It suits me as a character and what I stand for and it has been a great start to it all."
United will hope their decision not to press ahead with a move won't come back to haunt them in West London.
