The former agent of Darwin Nunez has urged him to "believe himself again" to fulfill his potential and become "the best striker in the world" at Liverpool.

And Edgardo Lasalvia, who was Nunez's representative before he switched to Portuguese giants Gestifute shortly before his move to Anfield in 2022, has backed his one-time client to emerge stronger from a difficult period.

Nunez has scored 18 goals in all competitions this term alongside 13 assists but he has registered just twice since the start of March and was involved for Jurgen Klopp's side during an abject April that saw their Europa League hopes dashed and their Premier League dreams now requiring a dramatic collapse from both Manchester City and current leaders Arsenal.

The Uruguay international, who joined for an initial £64m from Benfica two years ago, deleted all his Liverpool-related images off his Instagram account on Sunday after a 4-2 win over Tottenham, while some prominent fan accounts on Twitter were also blocked.

Such moves have led to speculation over his long-term future at Liverpool as they get set to appoint Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp successor and Lasalvia is still hopeful Nunez can become one of the finest marksmen in the game.

"Darwin is one of the best current strikers in the world, I don't work with him anymore but I love him very much," Lasalvia told Winwin.com:

"We have overcome many challenges and difficulties together, including two knee operations. Thanks to our support and great love, and with his will and that of his family, he was able to overcome it.

"I would like him to believe in himself again and remember everything he went through to get to his current place, and to rely on the people who really love him with or without success, with or without money, because he will succeed again in life and become the best striker in the world.

"Why did he miss easy chances? Footballers are human beings and these are just periods in their careers, they must be supported. Nunez can be a goalscorer wherever he plays, I hope it happens the best for the Liverpool team and its fans and the best for Darwin and his family."

Nunez is expected to be back in action for the Reds when they are entertained by Aston Villa on Monday evening.
