Alejandro Garnacho may yet to be forced into the decision of leaving Manchester United for Chelsea - a lesson learned the hard way by Juan Sebastian Veron.

As things stand, MEN Sport understands Chelsea have broken ahead of Napoli as the frontrunners to sign Garnacho this month, though Man United are holding out for the desired price that will help them combat Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The player himself is also not actively pushing to leave, as Ruben Amorim denied that last night's 2-1 win over Rangers would be the Argentine's last Old Trafford appearance.

"No, I’m focused on the games and he’s here, he’s a player for Manchester United. Was really important for us today and let’s see in the next days," the manager responded to the suggestion. Of course, Garnacho's situation is his own and he must come to his own conclusions.

But the switch between these two Premier League clubs has history, and one fellow Argentine who faced eerily similar circumstances would tell him of the troubles he faced if asked for advice. In fact, Veron has already handed insight into the matter.

The now-49-year-old initially moved to Man United for a British transfer record £28.1m fee, scoring 11 times in 82 appearances and winning one Premier League title. However, the midfielder would spend just 24 months under Sir Alex Ferguson's wing before becoming one of Roman Abramovich's first signings as Chelsea's owner - a move he later said he regretted.

Veron explained: "At Chelsea, the reality is that I had very little time. I had a major back injury and I was out for practically six months. I was already thinking more about going back to Italy than staying there in England.

"With United, the truth is that there are few things, very few, that I regret. But one is to have left Manchester. They never pushed me or told me 'you have to go', but they gave me the chance, the possibility.

"I had talks with my former colleagues at that time telling me that I had to stay. And at one moment I decided to leave because I wanted to play, because I didn't know... I should have stayed."
