Dorgu signs, problem fixed, Rashford exit - Man United must seal six transfers before deadline
Manchester United now have less than a week to fine-tune their squad ahead of the remainder of the season.
The January transfer window will slam shut at 11pm on Monday evening, meaning from that moment onwards Ruben Amorim will have to work with what he's got until the window reopens in the summer.
The Portuguese head coach is yet to add anyone to the squad he inherited from Erik ten Hag back in November, with outgoings so far dominating transfer activity at Old Trafford this month. The headline move so far has seen Antony join Real Betis on loan.

But with five days to go until the window closes, United need to try and ramp up the level of activity further, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
Incomings:
Patrick Dorgu
As reported by the Manchester Evening News on Tuesday, United are continuing to work on a deal to sign Lecce wing-back Dorgu. Talks have been ongoing over the past week or so and United's director of transfer negotiations Matt Hargreaves and Base Soccer intermediaries Leon Angel and Frank Trimboli met Lecce officials last week.
United are desperate to strengthen their left-sided wing-back options ahead of the bell and Dorgu has been earmarked as an ideal candidate. The Denmark international, 20, has caught the eye in Serie A this season and is deemed a suitable fit for Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system.
United have been without a natural left-sided full-back/wing-back for much of the season, making the pursuit of Dorgu logical. Getting a deal done for him would make him the first piece in the Amorim jigsaw.
A striker
With Rasmus Hojlund on a run of 11 games without a goal and Joshua Zirkzee scoring just once in his last 14 appearances, the need for a striker has never been greater. United do not have a reliable No.9 and Amorim's rotation policy all but confirms he does not know who to turn to lead the attack.
United are having to keep the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR) at the forefront of their thinking, meaning they are highly unlikely to swoop for a big-name striker in a big-money deal between now and next Monday night. Their only chance of signing a striker is likely to be via a loan deal.
However, how many clubs are going to be open to loaning out a striker of the quality United are in need of? Sourcing a star-studded No.9 is almost certainly going to have to wait until the summer.
Outgoings:
Marcus Rashford
Time is rapidly running out for Rashford's immediate future to be resolved. He has not featured in any of United's last 11 matches and has been omitted from ten matchday squads during that period.
Following Sunday night's 1-0 win at Fulham, Amorim suggested he would rather play 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than Rashford, making it crystal clear that he will not be picking him anytime soon. United are yet to have received an official offer for Rashford.
Amorim's recent comments about Rashford could force United into accepting a cut-price deal, with a loan exit likely to offer the forward his only escape route. His representatives have held talks with clubs both domestically and abroad.
Casemiro
Despite not being banished from the squad like Rashford has, Casemiro has also found opportunities hard to come by lately. He has not featured in any of United's opening six matches of 2025, being left on the bench for each of them.
Roma have emerged as a possible taker for the Brazilian and it has been claimed the midfielder would be 'open' to moving to the Italian capital. It is understood United would prefer to sell him than send him out on loan.
Out-of-contract in June 2026 and struggling for minutes, his value is only going to continue to plummet if United are unable to shift him before the headline. Selling him would make sense for all parties.
Tyrell Malacia
With United hopeful of strengthening their left-sided options with the addition of Dorgu, Malacia could be offloaded before the bell. He has made seven appearances since returning from a long-term injury lay-off, making four starts, but he is not a natural fit for Amorim's wing-back system.
The Manchester Evening News reported last week that he is likely to leave ahead of the window closing. United are unlikely to attract a buyer for him, making a loan move more realistic.
Allowing him to leave on a temporary basis would see United bank a loan fee and possibly have a good percentage of his wages covered by the loan club. A loan move could also drive up his valuation ahead of the summer.
Harry Amass
After a really impressive pre-season campaign, the fact Amass is yet to make his competitive debut for United is somewhat surprising. He was excellent in the United States last summer but has not featured for the first-team since, making the bench on just five occasions
United are understood to be considering sending the young left-back out on loan and some first-team exposure could do wonders for his development at this stage of his career. He will only learn so much playing youth football.
