FA Cup: Video Assistant Referee system set for tweak ahead of both semi-final clashes

Football’s controversial VAR system will be given a fresh twist during this weekend’s FA Cup semi-finals, with overturned decisions set to be replayed on the big screens at Wembley Stadium.

Reports say that, during both Saturday’s match between Manchester City and Brighton and Sunday’s meeting of Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers, fans will be able to see the same screenshots and replays the officials did before reaching their final decision.

When VAR is used but the original call still stands, replays will not be shown in the stadium.

The update should be warmly received by fans who have called for greater transparency ahead of the technology’s introduction to the Premier League next season.

But fans of clubs in the Championship play-offs may be left feeling aggrieved as the FA confirmed VAR will NOT be in operation for the final at Wembley.

The showpiece event of England’s second tier has promotion to the Premier League – and with it a £180m prize fund – on the line at the end of an arduous campaign.

But the decision has been supposedly been justified due to VAR not being used throughout the league campaign.
