Gabriel Martinelli has heaped praise on Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes amid transfer links with Arsenal.

Recent reports have claimed that the Gunners are interested in the Brazilian who joined Newcastle from Lyon in Janaury 2022 for a reported £40million fee. However, football.london understands that it is unlikely the 26-year-old will move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Guimaraes has been a key player for Eddie Howe's side, making over 100 appearances and scoring 14 goals alongside providing 14 assists. Magpies boss Howe has since revealed that the Brazil international has a £100m release clause in his contract until the end of June.

And Brazil teammates Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus have revealed what makes Guimaraes so good. Both players have praised his technical ability whilst praising his personality off the pitch as well.

"I know this boy he's good on the ball," Martinelli told Sky Sports. "So important for the team, he was with me in the Olympic Games as well.

"I've seen how skilful he is and the quality. For me, he is one of the best midfielders in the world. He just became a father, congratulations to him and he's a very good guy as well. I think he will be so important for us at the World Cup as well.

Jesus added: "He's quiet but controls the game, He's the balance on the pitch so he's so quality with the ball.

"Without the ball, he runs a lot, helps a lot the team and then as a person I just know him in the national team but I can just feel he's a good guy as well."
