Wales rugby and Six Nations icon Gavin Henson was an enigma during his glittering playing days.

The flash fly-half began his career with Swansea before becoming a pivotal puzzle piece for Ospreys. His flair and lofty kicking prowess made him one of the most eye-catching players to watch at the time and earned a comparison to footballing royalty David Beckham.

Henson was a key component of Wales' 2005 and 2008 Six Nations Grand Slam wins and was called up to the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in 2005, but it was off the pitch where his celebrity lifestyle often made headlines. We look at the 43-year-old's life behind the scenes, including his fortune, high-profile relationship with singer Charlotte Church, and what he is up to today.

What is Gavin Henson's net worth?

Very little is known about what fortune Henson still holds years on from his rugby heyday, but it is estimated to be in the region of £800k.

During his playing career with Ospreys, for whom he made nearly 100 appearances, he signed a four-year deal in 2005, reportedly worth approximately £120,000 per year.

Spells with Saracens, Toulon, Cardiff Blues, London Welsh, Bath and Bristol followed the expiration of this deal, but Henson's form slowly dwindled, and he likely earned less during these stints.

When did Gavin Henson date Charlotte Church?

The power couple that became Henson and Church were first seen in public together in 2005. The Welsh singer gave birth to a baby girl two years later, and in 2008, the duo welcomed their second child.

A media storm surrounded the couple from the day they announced their romance. However, the love was relatively short-lived. In 2010, months after revealing they were engaged, Henson and Church parted ways.

While the reasons for the breakup have never been specified, Church revealed that it was a mutual ending, stating: "When he proposed, I was overjoyed. It was amazing. I really was going to marry Gav and spend the rest of my life with him.

"But then he came back from Norway, and he'd changed, and I'd had time to think. We had both had a change of heart – so we were both of the same mind."

The pair remain civil, and both play significant roles in their now-teenage children's lives. Henson remarried to long-term partner Katie Wilson Mould in 2019.

What is Gavin Henson doing now?

After ending his rugby union career in 2019, Henson chose to scratch a rugby league itch in 2021 when he began playing for League 1's West Wales Raiders. This stint didn't last long though, and he hasn't featured for the club in four years.

Also in 2019, Henson took another plunge and became landlord of The Fox, a gastropub in the Vale of Glamorgan that he now runs with his wife, Katie Wilson Mould.

He told The Times: "I was coming to the end of my career, and it [the pub] had been sat here for 18 months, two years. It was not nice for the village, and I needed something to do after rugby and to be busy, not to mourn rugby and get depressed, as they say everyone does.

"But be careful what you wish for because this is so full-on. We want to feel like we've achieved something with the pub. We're perfectionists. We're all about the detail."
