Giorgi Mamardashvili has nowhere to hide as Barcelona runs riot ahead of Liverpool transfer
Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili had a night to forget on Sunday as Barcelona thrashed Valencia 7-1 in La Liga.
Valencia is having a nightmare season and is facing relegation to the Segunda Division for the first time since the 1980s, currently sitting in 19th position in the top-flight standings, four points from safety.
Valencia actually went into the match against Barca off the back of a four-match unbeaten run across games in La Liga and the Copa del Rey, but it became evident fairly early on that that run would not be extended.
Hansi Flick's Blaugrana side went two goals up inside the opening eight minutes of the match through goals from Frenkie de Jong and Ferran Torres.

Mamardashvili didn't exactly cover himself in glory for Barca's third goal, as he rushed out to try and intercept a long ball, only to be beaten to it by Raphinha, who rounded the Georgian 'keeper and slotted home.
Valencia was 5-0 down by half-time as Fermin Lopez scored twice, and a second-half Robert Lewandowski strike plus an own-goal by Cesar Tarrega completed the rout.
After the match, Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny showed his class as he gave Mamardashvili a consoling embrace, clearly sympathetic to his adversary's plight.
The seven goals that Barcelona scored means that only Real Vallodolid in 20th place has conceded more goals than Valencia this season.
Valencia manager Carlos Corberan said after the match: “I always like to take full responsibility for things that happen on the pitch, and when we have been outclassed in a match, it is time to self-criticise and see why we didn't compete at the level that the match demands, what the club we represent demand, and we have not had the intensity or the ability to match FC Barcelona.
“When one suffers a comprehensive result, through not having competed at the level that we have as a team, at the level that wearing the shirt demands of us, there is no more painful feeling than that."
Liverpool signed Mamardashvili for a fee worth up to $36million last summer, and he will move to Anfield ahead of the 2025-26 season.
