Gossip: Ronaldo 'holds secret PSG talks', Barcelona 'want Man City midfielder', Wilshere 'demands transfer'

Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have scored 26 league goals between them this season. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored one.

So is the Portuguese forward good enough to get in Paris Saint-Germain’s attack? Can the French side afford another multi-million Euro transfer deal? And how long would it take before all four attackers became embroiled in an ugly on-pitch brawl over who was on free-kick duty?

These are all questions that would presumably have been discussed in “secret” talks that have reportedly been held between CR7 and PSG at a Madrid hotel this week.

The Star says Ronaldo was told by “representatives” from the runaway Ligue 1 leaders that they would pay him “whatever it takes” to convince him to join their “exciting project”.

This would have been music to Cristiano’s ears at a time when he “doesn’t feel valued” at the Bernabeu. (Which is completely fair enough as he only earns £365,000 a week and will continue to do so until he is 36 years old.)

The problem with reading football gossip in the Star is that you’ll invariably get sidetracked by the “real news” in the sidebar, such as “PORN star Jenna Jameson claims legendary wrestler The Undertaker threatened to kidnap her“.

Good story, that. Although it’s from 1 November so not sure why it’s featured so prominently. (In case you’re wondering, Jameson and the Undertaker apparently later became “good friends”, so all’s well that ends well.)

Barcelona target Bernardo Silva

Moving on, rarely used Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva could come up trumps and earn a move to Barcelona.

The Express says the Catalan giants are ready to move for the former Monaco man following a suggestion from Lionel Messi, who seems to be dictating the club’s entire transfer policy these days.

The Argentine will therefore be very angry when he reads today’s story in the Mirror (and he surely will read it because he loves the Mirror, particularly the Kevin Maguire column) that Mesut Ozil will be offered £350,000 a week to move to the Nou Camp.

Previously, rumour had it that Messi was trying to “block” the German’s switch from Arsenal, but Barca chiefs have allegedly decided that getting Ozil on a free transfer at the end of the season is too good a deal to ignore.

Another silky midfielder who is set to leave the Emirates is Jack Wilshere, who the Express says will “discuss a January transfer” with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger because he feels he needs first-team football to force himself into England’s World Cup squad. He also probably needs Harry Winks to do his hamstring around May.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have been “warned off” a move for Gareth Bale after Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane insisted the Welshman was very “important” to him (Sun), Tony Pulis is the leading contender to take over as Swansea’s next manager if Paul Clement is sacked (Mail) and Antonio Conte has “complained” to Chelsea’s board that that they are taking too long to sort out a new contract for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois (Guardian). Do you ever get the sense that Conte just really likes having arguments?
