Gossip: Bayern 'want Alli', United 'target £35m Dier, Everton 'chase Pickford'
Boss of Goss Kevin Darling on what looks like bad news for Tottenham Hotspur supporters
Tottenham have been doing a half-decent job of keeping Dele Alli under wraps so far. They got knocked out the Champions League and Europa League early doors so that none of Europe’s big guns would notice him, while the midfielder did the club proud with his below-par displays at the Euros that put any vultures off the scent. But now it’s all ruined, because Spurs’ cover is about to be spectacularly blown by EA Sports. According to the Mirror, the FIFA makers are set to make Alli the face of their next game, and Bayern Munich have already started sniffing around.
The German champions “could make a summer move” for the 20-year-old, possibly driven by the fact that Marco Reus from rivals Borussia Dortmund was the cover star of FIFA 17, although Spurs will “definitely attempt to fend off any bids”. On the plus side, if Alli does make the cover of FIFA 18 then Daniel Levy could use it as leverage to push his price up by about £20m.

In further annoying news for Spurs fans, Alli’s special mate Eric Dier is also being linked with a move away from north London. The Sun says Manchester United are considering a £35m summer swoop for the midfielder/defender, having allegedly failed with a previous attempt to sign him in January. Jose Mourinho is apparently a “huge fan” of Dier and “has watched him a number of times”. Just like anyone else with a Sky Sports subscription, then.
United are also trying to sign Real Madrid duo Toni Kroos and Raphael Varane in news the Star says “will stun Man Utd fans” . Although it probably won’t stun them that much, because United have been trying to sign Kroos and Varane for about three years (without success).
The Sun claims Arsenal want Juventus boss Max Allegri to replace Arsene Wenger “if the Frenchman leaves the Emirates in the summer”. But he won’t leave (unless they sack him), so this is currently a moot point.
Jurgen Klopp has said Liverpool will “spend big” in the summer (Times) and thinks no player will be “too expensive” for them (Guardian). Which will make a change because the Reds have spent years buying players that are too expensive.
Elsewhere, Everton are “keeping tabs” on Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (Mail), Torino want to make Joe Hart’s loan move from Man City a permanent one, but the Italians face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool (Talksport) and Stoke City do not want to make Wilfried Bony’s loan move from Man City a permanent one and will face competition from nobody (Express). Poor old Wilfried Bony.
