Sterling has enjoyed a fine first season under Pep Guardiola, scoring 6 league goals and registering 11 assists. He’s hit a purple patch in recent weeks, returning attacking points for fantasy managers in each of his last four matches (1 goal, 4 assists). He was very impressive again in the midweek FA Cup win over Huddersfield, laying on assists for Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero to score.

Pep is one of Sterling’s biggest fans and he’s one of the first names on his team sheet each week. His pace, creativity, and ability to score goals, playing for a City team capable of scoring five any given week, make him a very attractive option for fantasy managers. Despite being listed as a midfielder, Sterling spends a lot of time in the oppositions penalty area, almost as a support striker to Sergio Aguero (£27).

‘Kun’ will be the most popular Manchester City pick for this fixture following his two-goal haul against Huddersfield. He’s the number one striker for City again having briefly lost his place to Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus, who may not play again this season due to injury. Whilst the Argentinian looks essential this week, Sterling offers excellent value to those not willing to spend big on the striker or for those who want to include more than one City attacker in their team.

City should beat Sunderland comfortably given their array of attacking talent coupled with the quality (or lack of) that David Moyes has at his disposal. Expect plenty of goals from the Pep’s side.

NOT – Marko Arnautovic (Stoke City) – £17

Position: Forward

Form: 3 goals and 3 assists this season.

Fixture: Middlesbrough (Home)

Arnautovic has been a major disappointment for Stoke this season managing just 3 goals and 3 assists in the league. The Austrian hit the back of the net 11 times last season while registering 6 assists, so why is he not performing this season?

The main problem Arnautovic has is the players he is playing alongside. The Stoke starting XI against Tottenham last weekend included Peter Crouch, Glenn Whelan, Charlie Adam and Phil Bardsley – four players who are well past their sell-by-date. It’s no surprise the game was over at half time.

The Stoke midfield is severely lacking creativity which is affecting Arnautovic’s output. He’s not receiving the quality service he needs from the players around him in order to deliver for both Stoke City and for us fantasy managers. His frustration was clearly visible during the Spurs game and it’s likely that he will want to find himself a new club for next season.

The Potters welcome Middlesbrough to the Britannia on Saturday – a well drilled defensive unit who don’t concede many goals. Time will tell whether Arnautovic can get his season going before it’s over, but for now, it’s best to avoid him in fantasy football.
