Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Liverpool and Man United 'fight for Fabregas', Tottenham 'target King', Arsenal 'fail with Calvert-Lewin bid'
It’s a time of deep reflection for Cesc Fabregas, for today is the last day of his 20s. That means no more wasting his life going to nightclubs, or playing computer games, or sitting on the substitutes’ bench at Stamford Bridge. It’s time to grow up. It’s time to move to Liverpool (or maybe Manchester United).
The Star reports that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to compete with Jose Mourinho to sign the Chelsea midfielder this summer (Or as they put it, “Klopp in Fab Grab – Kop scrap over Cesc”, because Star readers generally get confused by words longer than five letters.)
Fabregas reportedly has no desire to leave the Blues, but he hardly ever gets picked, and he will be picked even less next season if Antonio Conte bags transfer target Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco. That’s no situation for a 30-year-old man to be in, especially one who has won the World Cup.
Whether the Reds or the Red Devils are successful in snaring Cesc will probably depend on which of them qualifies for the Champions League. And even if neither of them do, they will still have a better chance of signing him than AC Milan, who the Standard says Fabregas will “snub” because he has “little interest” in moving to Serie A.
The latest target in Tottenham’s long-running search for a very specific type of forward who is Not Too Good to Mind Being Second Choice but Not as Bad as Vincent Janssen is, according to the Mirror, Bournemouth’s Josh King.

The Norwegian has apparently “fired himself onto Spurs’ radar” with a recent goal spree and would fetch “at least £15m”. The Cherries may replace him with relegated Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, who has been advised to move to the south coast by his former Tottenham team-mate (and Bournemouth defender) Adam Smith (Star).
Man Utd have “opened talks” with Torino about a deal for 23-year-old striker Andrea Bellotti, who has an £84m release clause in his contract (Express). The opening sentence of these talks was presumably, “Can we not pay £84m for him please?”

Elsewhere, Arsenal’s attempts to sign Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been foiled after the youngster agreed a new five-year deal at Goodison Park (Star) Slaven Bilic’s West Ham future will be determined by how the Hammers perform in their last two home games against Tottenham and Liverpool (Guardian) and Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta has emerged as a key summer target for Barcelona (Sport).
Finally, even more upsetting for Blues fans is the revelation that they turned down the chance to sign Monaco’s £100m-rated teenager Kylian Mbappe for just £17,000 four years ago (Mirror). That is literally less than they spend per season on hair product for David Luiz.
