If reports are to be believed, Liverpool may be pushing to sign the next Jude Bellingham. So, what do we know about Hugo Larsson?

According to Caught Offside, the Reds are one of a number of sides showing a “strong interest” in the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder, who has been catching the eye in the Bundesliga. Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United’s interests are said to be the most advanced, while the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham and Real Madrid have also been touted.

It’s suggested that Liverpool has already made contact with the player’s representatives, and indicated that it is ready to make “big offers” in the summer. Larsson is valued at around $62m (£50m/€60m) by Eintracht, with the German club apparently ready to cash in on the 20-year-old.

A Swedish international with eight caps to his name already, Larsson began his footballing journey back in his homeland with SoGK Charlo before signing for Malmo as a 12-year-old. He’d go on to make his debut for the club as a 17-year-old in 2022, and quickly established himself, making 46 appearances across all competitions in his first season.

Such was his impact that he was named the Allsvenskan’s young player of the year, leading to interest across Europe. After making 15 more appearances the following year, Larsson earned himself a move to Frankfurt, signing a five-year contract, with Malmo receiving a record fee for a Swedish club.

It didn’t take long for Larsson to begin putting his stamp on things in Germany - having scored his first goal for Eintracht in a 2-0 win over Heidenheim, his second strike would come in a 5-1 victory over Bayern Munich. He made 38 appearances in all competitions in his debut season, and has gone on to add another 29 this season, with four goals in the process.

Larsson’s performances have led to some rave reviews and big comparisons, not least with Real Madrid star Bellingham. Having been linked with the England international during his time at Borussia Dortmund, it’s a comparison that will no doubt pique the interest of Liverpool fans.

Reviewing Larsson ahead of his move to Frankfurt, analyst Ben Mattinson pointed to his strength as a ball-carrier, underlining his “insane running power and stamina”.

“When giving the eye test on Larsson he’s very similar to Bellingham stylistically and was initially my pick to replace Jude at Dortmund but he suits Frankfurt very well and they’re building a top team. Excited to see how he settles in,” Mattinson said of Larsson.

Another box-to-box midfielder might not seem to be an immediate priority for Liverpool, given they already have the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones to call upon, not to mention Ryan Gravenberch should another No.6 be brought in. Nevertheless, a young talent like Larsson should not be ignored, and it only makes sense for the Reds to make a play should the opportunity arise in the near future.
