Jürgen Klopp took a leaf out of Sir Alex Ferguson's book as he addressed Liverpool supporters during his farewell speech. The German took charge of Liverpool for the final time in the win over Wolves on Sunday.

It was an emotional occasion at Anfield but Klopp managed to hold it together as he was serenaded by his adoring fans. He expressed his own gratitude during his farewell speech and even burst into a chant for successor Arne Slot.

The Dutchman will take over from Klopp after leaving Feyenoord at the end of the Eredivisie season. His appointment could be confirmed as early as this week by Liverpool.

Klopp then added: "When the next season starts you are not waiting to see what’s going on, no you go full throttle into it. You welcome the new manager like you welcome me. You go all in from the first day.

"And when it’s hard, you keep believing. When it’s difficult, you keep believing and you push the team, for a goal or whatever. I’m one of you now, I love you to bits.”

His speech drew similarities to the one Ferguson delivered after his final match as Manchester United manager back in 2013. The Red Devils had already confirmed David Moyes as his successor and the departing Scot had some words for the Old Trafford support.

“I would like to remind you this club stood by me in bad times, the players and the staff,” he famously said. “Your job now is to stand by the new manager.”

Moyes was not afforded the support that his predecessor had wished for though. He was sacked in April 2014 after only 10 months in charge, with United finishing the season in seventh place in the Premier League.

Liverpool.com says: Klopp's speech did draw similarities to the one Ferguson delivered 11 years ago but the two clubs are in very different states. That United side had won the title in Ferguson's last season in charge but featured a number of players coming to the end of their careers. This Liverpool squad is a pretty young one and they are only going to improve from the experience of this season.

Moyes was not given the time at Old Trafford and his first transfer window was a poor one as several moves for high-profile signings fell through. Liverpool knows Arne Slot needs to be given reinforcements if it is to challenge City and Arsenal again next season.
