'The little cockerel' - Paul Merson makes Tottenham tattoo promise amid Arsenal title race

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has promised to get a Tottenham tattoo if Spurs get a result against Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The Gunners will need to rely on their north London rivals as they look to lift their first Premier League title since 2004. Pep Guardiola's side have a game in hand over Mikel Arteta's team and will reclaim top spot if they win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in mid-week.

Sunday's win at Manchester United has ensured that Arsenal will take the title fight to the final day, regardless of the result on Tuesday. Arteta's side will play their final game of the campaign at home to Everton next Sunday with City kicking off at home to West Ham at the same time.

And former Arsenal player Merson has made a bold promise ahead of a defining week. He promises to get a Spurs tattoo if they do his old club a favour, suggesting they will have something to play for if Aston Villa lose to Liverpool on Monday night.

"If Villa got beat tomorrow by two or three, all of a sudden that goal difference changes a bit," he said on Sky Sports. "If they go and get beat by one or two at Palace...

"If they lost their next two games by two clear goals, I am not talking about the extraordinary here, that's four goals, then all of a sudden Tottenham...if they get a draw against City I am having a tattoo, and then they go and put six past Sheffield United.

"It all goes down to Tuesday, I am starting to want Arsenal not to win it now. It would be the little cockerel on the ball, but I will have it. I will have it."

Tottenham currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, four points off of Aston Villa in fourth. A win against City midweek would keep Spurs in the race for Champions League qualification.
