Incoming Liverpool boss Arne Slot will run the rule over his squad this summer with several returning stars hoping to catch his eye. The Dutchman is set to be appointed as Jürgen Klopp's successor and will assume the title of 'head coach' at Anfield.

His primary focus will be on coaching and leading the team and part of that process will include assessing those players who have not been part of Klopp's plans this season. Liverpool decided in the summer that Fábio Carvalho's development would be best served by getting regular minutes elsewhere.

He joined RB Leipzig but struggled to nail down a regular starting spot before moving to Championship side Hull City in January. Since then, the 21-year-old hasn't looked back.

Carvalho has scored nine times in 19 appearances with his goals pushing Hull into play-off contention. His side must win its final day match against Plymouth on Saturday to stand any chance of making the top six.

But the Portuguese youngster already has one eye on next season and is determined to impress Slot on his return. "The way I see it, it’s a fresh start. Not just for me, but obviously whoever comes in and for the likes of Tyler (Morton) as well," he told the Liverpool ECHO.

"Tyler and I have spoken. Especially after the news came out about Jürgen. We just spoke about what could potentially change at the club. We’ll just go back there with nothing to lose and everything to gain. I’ve heard a few things but I’m just focused on myself and focused what I’m doing right now

“Obviously I want to break into the Liverpool first-team squad, into the starting XI as well. For now, I’m focused on Hull City and getting promoted. I’m going to see how pre-season turns out and then we’ll make a decision (on my future) after that.”

Carvalho has shone in a No.10 role for Hull and admits that is his favored position, having struggled to fit into Klopp's 4-3-3 system during his time at Anfield. He added: "I can do a job out wide but it's not my natural position. I'm not Luis Díaz. I'm more of a No.10 and that's where I have been playing at Hull.

“I get that freedom from the manager. That’s what I want and that’s all I need, which is the trust. Because if you don’t have the trust, you don’t play with confidence. If you don’t have confidence, it’s nothing.”

Liverpool.com says: Carvalho will have the chance to catch Slot's eye in pre-season but will still have hopes of guiding Hull back into the Premier League. He has impressed at Championship level and now must prove he is ready for the Premier League. Slot is eager to have lots of attacking players in his squads and that could work in Carvalho's favor.
