Liverpool has confirmed its first deal of transfer deadline day, with U21s midfielder Dominic Corness heading out on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old has joined League Two side Gillingham as he looks to get more senior game time under his belt. Corness spent last season on loan at Swiss Super League side Yverdon Sport, where he made 22 appearances in total, including one for the club's second team.

Corness has been part of Liverpool’s academy since the age of five, having worked his way up through the ranks to become a regular for the club’s U21s. He was handed his first professional contract in February 2021, going on to sign an extension in November 2022.

The midfielder will be joining a club currently situated in 17th in League Two, with his Gillingham debut potentially coming against Barrow on Saturday.

Corness is not the only departure expected from Liverpool before January window closes, with at least two more players set to head out on loan. Jayden Danns is expected to join Sunderland, while Kaide Gordon looks set to complete a move to Portsmouth, having spent the first half of the season at Norwich City.

Tyler Morton has also been linked with a permanent move away from Anfield, with Middlesbrough having shown an interest. However, The Times' Paul Joyce has now reported that the Championship side has not come close to meeting Liverpool's valuation, meaning a move to the Riverside looks to be off.

Corness becomes the fifth Liverpool player to make a move at the start of 2025. Marcelo Pitaluga and Tom Hill have both made permanent switches to Fluminense and Harrogate respectively, while Calvin Ramsay and Stefan Bajcetic have gone back out on loan after spending the first half of the season at Wigan and Red Bull Salzburg, joining Kilmarnock and Las Palmas respectively.
