Liverpool could snap up $32m ace like Philippe Coutinho after 'working for months' on transfer
Even were it not for the troubles that Liverpool has had in front of goal in recent weeks, it would have made sense for the Reds to look at signing another forward this summer. With the expanded Champions League format, there are even more games to squeeze in — and the squad needs to be able to cope with the demands.
Add in the fact that Arne Slot loves a winger and has openly spoken in the past about wanting a lot of them on his roster because of a need to constantly refresh that area of the pitch in-game, and it only seems to make the case for signing another player who can play that role even more of an obvious move.
Liverpool has often moved for some of the best teenage talents around in recent years, snapping up the likes of Harvey Elliott for cheap fees ahead of their values exploding. That strategy has already begun to pay off, and could do so again in the future with the likes of Ben Doak, Kaide Gordon and Bobby Clark among those vying to come through.

Now, though, links have emerged with another young talent, who admittedly would cost a significant amount more than those other names, but certainly has already shown signs of being on the pathway to the top. Supposedly, Liverpool likes the look of the 21-year-old Spanish talent Alberto Moleiro.
Now, today's AS (print edition via Sport Witness) has claimed that Liverpool has been working for 'months' on the signing of Moleiro, while Inter Milan is also said to be keen. The player has a release clause worth $64m (£52m/€60m) in his contract, but Las Palmas is said to be willing to sell for half that and is aware that the time might have come.
He has been linked with a move to Anfield on a few occasions before. And when Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Barcelona are all in the race to sign you, there is a good chance you are heading in the right direction.
In November 2022, a report in Spain from AS claimed that Liverpool was eyeing up a deal for a Spanish wonderkid who is also being chased by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. In December, Mundo Deportivo added Manchester City and Arsenal to that same list.
Jürgen Klopp, the AS piece stated, is a big fan of the player and Liverpool's scouting department has given 'very good' reports of his performances in the Spanish second tier. Cadena Ser reported that transfer talks with Barcelona have stalled in 2023 but the interest from the Camp Nou side remains.
With a slight frame and a tendency to maneuver the ball onto his right foot from a starting position to the left of the pitch, Moleiro resembles Philippe Coutinho in his style of play: silky, skillful and never shy of dropping his shoulder and working the ball onto his favored foot, frequently playing cutting through-balls or unleashing curling long-range attempts.
Now 21, there is a better chance that he could move to England and adjust than when the links first emerged and he was still a teenager. Dubbed the 'new Pedri' by Goal in October 2022, as much for the fact that the Barcelona starlet also played for Las Palmas previously as anything else, Moleiro is going to be on the move sooner rather than later.
Barcelona even attempted to repeat the Pedri move by bidding $10.6m (£8.9m/€10m) for the talented teenager in 2022, according to local media outlet Canarias7. That was not enough to secure his signature and with so much interest from around Europe, Las Palmas will almost certainly hold out for more.
At half of his release clause, though, that could still prove a bargain. Moleiro is on the right track already in his career and is destined for a big move before long — Liverpool should certainly be placing themselves in the conversation for a few attacking reinforcements ahead of the summer, before picking the best one.
