Liverpool does not have a totally clean bill of health at the moment. But head coach Arne Slot can have few complaints as the Reds continue to battle for glory on four fronts this season.

That's because, of the 20-plus players in the Dutchman's senior squad, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the only senior absence of note. And his thigh injury is only expected to keep him sidelined for a matter of days.

Young midfielder Tyler Morton is going to be sidelined for longer with a shoulder problem. Slot confirmed that contributed to the club's decision to retain James McConnell amid loan interest in the 20-year-old during the January transfer window.

"It's something you want," Slot said when asked about the relatively good health of his squad ahead of Friday's FA Cup trip to Plymouth Argyle. "If you have to play so many games and the importance of the games are growing and growing and growing, you want to have as many players available as you can.

"We have to give big compliments to the players and the performance staff, because they give a lot of effort to stay as fit as they can. If you look at how professional they are around the training sessions and after, then it is not a surprise to me for them to stay as fit as they are at the moment."

Here's what Slot had to say about Alexander-Arnold and Morton, plus their possible return dates...

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Reason for absence: Thigh injury

What Arne Slot said: “[This weekend's FA Cup match against Plymouth is] going to be too early for him. Difficult to say [whether he will return against Everton next week]. Like I said before, it’s not going to take months and not even weeks but that’s only three days after the Plymouth Argyle game, so let’s wait and see if he is available.

“We also have to look at the long term, of course we don’t want to take any risks with so many games afterwards coming up. But if he’s fit then of course we will use him.”

Possible return date: February 12 (vs Everton)

Tyler Morton

Reason for absence: Shoulder injury

What Arne Slot said: “[He will be out] for weeks or maybe even longer”.

Possible return date: Unknown

Slot is expected to rotate his team heavily for the FA Cup tie with Plymouth this weekend. "I think it's always a tricky tie no matter what team you play because it's an away game, it's their final probably — as is many times when Liverpool comes anywhere," Slot said during his pre-match press conference.

"But it is true that if you play with a team that hasn't played so much together that that is always for the players a bit more difficult. But I think we've seen already a few times when we played with a team that hasn't played already together — even in Eindhoven in the Champions League these players were able to play a very good game.

"So, I think it's important in these moments for some players that don't get [much] playing time to have their playing time, so whenever we need them they are ready. If you never play them then it's so difficult for them to be ready if we do get some injuries or suspensions. Yeah, we will definitely use a few players that haven't played that much. But we will make that final call tomorrow."
