Liverpool were met with a heroes welcome on their return to Merseyside as thousands of fans lined the streets to see them parade the Champions League trophy through the city centre.

The Reds 2-0 win over Tottenham in Madrid sparked jubilant scenes on Saturday night, with fans celebrating into the early hours.

Jurgen Klopp and his team arrived at Liverpool John Lennon Airport on Sunday, before boarding an open-top bus emblazoned with the message “Champions of Europe”.

The club tweeted to show that the squad had arrived safely earlier in the day, showing off their new piece of silverware.

Although captain Jordan Henderson seemed more happy he had a new foot rest for the flight home.

He did well to prise it away from a sleepy Mo Salah, who clearly didn’t want to let go of the trophy.
