Liverpool can sign Dominik Szoboszlai 'replacement' as Arne Slot confirmed in dream scenario

Head coach Arne Slot of Feyenoord looks up during the Dutch Eredivisie match between NEC Nijmegen and Feyenoord at Goffertstadion on May 12, 2024 in Nijmegen, Netherlands.

Liverpool still hasn't announced its next manager. We've known since January that Jürgen Klopp will be leaving at the end of the season, but formal confirmation of the next coach has not been forthcoming.

Over the past few weeks, it's emerged that Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is highly likely to be the man for the job. It's thought that everything is in place, and we're now more or less just waiting for Liverpool to make the news official.

In similar boats, neither Liverpool nor Feyenoord have anything left to play for this season, having both fallen just short of really close title battles. That would seem to pave the way for an announcement, but the Reds are seemingly savoring the final matches with Klopp before turning the focus to his successor.

Once that focus does shift, there will be all sorts of questions to answer, not least looking ahead to the summer transfer window. With the 'replacement' for Dominik Szoboszlai linked, here are two stories from today that you might have missed.

Liverpool can sign Dominik Szoboszlai 'replacement'

Slot is bound to have his own ideas about what he wants in the transfer market. So too will Michael Edwards, and newly-appointed sporting director Richard Hughes. Along with returning duo Julian Ward and David Woodfine, this axis is likely to call the shots on recruitment, with Slot set to arrive as 'head coach' rather than manager.

Regardless of where the power lies, Dani Olmo could be of interest to Liverpool in the summer. The Spaniard has effectively replaced Szoboszlai at RB Leipzig, switching over from the left to play more often on the right side where the Hungarian used to feature.

And having been linked with a transfer, Liverpool could sign the 'replacement' to then play alongside Szoboszlai, in what would be an intriguing and versatile duo. Read the full story from James Martin.

Arne Slot confirmed in dream end-of-season scenario

It does look to be a matter of when rather than if Slot is appointed at Liverpool. Nonetheless, it would be good to have the confirmation by the end of the season, giving existing squad members and potential transfer targets alike some certainty over what comes next.

It could even be that the announcement comes before the end of the campaign. That would allow Slot to say a proper goodbye to Feyenoord supporters, although it's no secret that he will be leaving the club.

Either way, that certainly forms part of a dream (but realistic) end to the season. More optimistically, new deals for Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and even Mohamed Salah at Liverpool would be massive morale boosts as the club prepares to embark on its new era.

Liverpool will make sure the last two games are special anyway, with the Klopp farewell to think about. But Matt Addison has sketched out the ideal end to the campaign.
