'Madness' - Manchester United given clear Alejandro Garnacho warning amid transfer speculation
Ruben Amorim has expressed his desire to retain Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho at Old Trafford, but conceded that Manchester United may need to offload academy graduates to comply with Premier League spending regulations. Both players have been linked with a move away during the January transfer window, with Chelsea and Napoli reportedly interested in 20 year old Garnacho, but Manchester Evening News readers are keen to build the team around them.
Reluctantly, United might have to entertain offers deemed too lucrative to refuse for these academy stars, as their sale would represent pure profit from an accounting perspective. They are also among the more marketable assets in Amorim's squad.
"I want players like Kobbie and Garnacho," Amorim stated. "The focus is that we have to improve our academy. And you have to bring more [through].Garnacho is on his best run of form under Amorim and beginning to look more comfortable in one of the No.10 roles. He has also knuckled down having been left out of the squad for the Manchester derby in December, along with Marcus Rashford. While Rashford remains out in the cold, the Argentine is now a key figure once again after changing his approach."

Garnacho is currently enjoying his best form under Amorim, appearing increasingly comfortable in one of the No. 10 roles. He has shown commitment after being omitted from the squad for the Manchester derby in December, alongside Rashford.
While Rashford remains sidelined, the Argentine has re-emerged as a key player after altering his approach. "I don't think he is improving [because of] me. He changed right away since that game against City," Amorim commented. "I think all the merit goes to Garnacho. He is improving and we want to continue to improve with Garnacho."
Commenter Soulman47 thinks: “I definitely agree Mainoo and Garnacho (providing they are not sold) definitely have a future in Rubens team, and feel that Dan Gore (Playmaker) currently on loan and Collyer (CDM), all make up the ideal midfield for the next generation for Man Utd.”
Panchopearson replies: "The club must keep producing players from the academy like Mainoo and Garnacho. Collyer is another one that played last night. These lads are young and make mistakes but they very rarely let you down. Hopefully, the players who have been loaned out this January, Ennis, Wheatley, Gore etc, will have plenty of game time and come back in pre-season and really push to get into the first team. Potentially much better options than spending fortunes on so-called 'recognised' players who just haven't been able to cut it since coming to United."
Cho. Jay. thinks: “If Garnacho can be channelled and inspired to think along the lines of Ronaldo (as in the drive to be the best he is capable of being consistently) then academy players or not, he appears to be the talent we can build a team around. In my opinion he shouldn’t be sold, Utd must find some other way to finance and build the first team”
Anniemuse agrees: “The idea that United sell their best chances of improvement (eg Garnacho) to raise money for transfers when United's record in the transfer market is so abysmal is lunacy. Keep the young talented players they have and save wasting another £100 million plus on players, untested either at the highest level or indeed the Premier League (e.g. Dorgu, Tel etc) who likely won't improve the squad.”
Jolus pleads: “Please stop speculating about Manchester United's jewels, Mainoo and Garnacho. They should never be in the equation. The people at the club's top positions, especially manager Amorim, should not even think about it. These two lads and others like them are United's future. How could anybody even think about it?”
Wasp 11 agrees: “Lets sell two of our best young players and buy who as an upgrade? Madness if it happens.”
