Manchester City welcome Belgian champions Club Brugge to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening in what is simply a must-win game for Pep Guardiola's side in the Champions League.

City head into the final matchday of the league phase in 25th place in the table, knowing only the top 24 sides will advance to the knockout stages.

The Premier League champions are two points adrift of 24th placed Stuttgart, meaning only a win against Brugge will suffice if they are not to fall at the first hurdle in the competition.

City's season has ranged from the spectacular to the disastrous but they will back themselves to get the win that would lift them above their opponents in the league table.

Guardiola has some big decisions to make in terms of his team selection and he will have to make at least two changes to the side who beat Chelsea 3-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

New signings Abdukodir Khusanov and Omar Marmoush both started against Enzo Maresca's side but they are ineligible to play in the Champions League until the knockout stages.

As such, Ederson is likely to retain his place in goal and John Stones should come into the back four alongside Matheus Nunes, Manuel Akanji and Josko Gvardiol.

Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic should keep their place in midfield but Guardiola will likely opt for Kevin De Bruyne to complete the midfield three, with Ilkay Gundogan dropping to the bench.

Phil Foden will start on the right-wing and Savinho will probably get the nod to replace Marmoush on the left of the front three over Jack Grealish. Erling Haaland will lead the line.

Man City's predicted XI: Ederson; Nunes, Stones, Akanji, Gvardiol; Silva, Kovacic, De Bruyne; Foden, Savinho; Haaland
