A proposed deal that could see Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu become Ruben Amorim's first signing as Manchester United manager is progressing well, but a fee is yet to be agreed between the clubs for the 20-year-old.

As reported by The Manchester Evening News, it is hoped that a deal can be struck soon so that the defender can travel to Manchester within the next 24 hours. Talks with the club and the player are ongoing.

Should a deal be completed, then it is likely to see Tyrell Malacia depart the club - with Real Betis interested in the left-back. United forward Antony completed a loan move to the same La Liga side just last week.

The update comes amid reports that United had booked a flight for Dorgu to arrive in the city on Thursday ahead of his January transfer. Lecce insisted on Sunday that they remained "confident" of keeping Dorgu in this window, as they aimed to retain their best players ahead of the run-in. However, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that United have "won the race" for the 20-year-old.

He indicated that a £25million deal has been agreed with the Italian team with £6.2million agreed in add-ons. With time running out in the January transfer window, the Reds are working hard to avoid deadline day drama.

As such, the report adds that Dorgu will fly into Manchester on Thursday to undergo his medical and complete the final pieces of paper work to become a United player. The Manchester Evening News, however, understands that is not yet the case, while there are still negotiations to be done with regards to a transfer fee.

Dorgu's potential arrival could then be followed by the signing of Ayden Heaven from Arsenal. The young Gunners' centre-back made his debut in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, but is understood to have been tempted to Old Trafford due to "assurances" when it comes to more first-team opportunities.

Arsenal's 18-year-old was at Old Trafford last week for United's 2-1 victory over Rangers in the Europa League.
