Manchester United hero Harry Maguire has given a further reaction to his late winner against former club Leicester City on Friday night.

The defender headed in Bruno Fernandes’ free kick with virtually the final touch of the game to give United a 2-1 lead after coming from behind. Leicester were left rueing their luck with replays showing that the defender was in an offside position when the cross came in, but with no VAR in action until the next round of the FA Cup, the goal stood, much to the annoyance of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

United will discover their opponents in the fifth round of the competition when the draw takes place on Monday evening. The game will take place the weekend of March 1.

Friday night was not the first time that Maguire has been involved in a dramatic late goal in a game between United and Leicester. Back in December, 2017, Maguire lined up for the Foxes against United in the Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium.

Things were going well for United, who were leading 2-1 with Leicester down to ten men after Daniel Amartey was shown a second yellow card. However, Maguire was on hand in the 94th minute to put the ball past David de Gea and earn Leicester an unlikely 2-2 draw. It’s something that the now United defender has not forgotten.

Posting on his Instagram stories, he shared a split picture with one half showing his scoring the equaliser for Leicester against United in 2017, and the second showing his late winner against the Foxes on Friday night. As a caption, he wrote “Roles reversed.”

Maguire joined United from Leicester for a fee of £80million in 2019. He has had an up and down time at Old Trafford, including being stripped of the captaincy.

The defender has however had a recent upturn in form under Ruben Amorim, despite the team’s struggles. He has featured in every Premier League game he has been available for under the new manager, with the goal being his first since Amorim’s arrival in November.
