Adama Traore's worrying message for Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has resurfaced ahead of this evening's Premier League clash away at Fulham.

It is a crucial fixture for Ruben Amorim's men as they look to work their way into the top half of the table. They are currently seven points behind the Cottagers in 10th but a victory on Sunday could place them four points adrift.

The previous meeting between these two teams on the opening day of the 2024/25 season ended in a narrow 1-0 victory in United's favour. Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee scored late on his debut to settle the scoreline.

One of the key battles in that game was between Martinez and Traore and the United star ultimately came out on top on that occasion. Traore had the beating of Martinez early in that game, but the United man then out-muscled his opponent in response.

In a post-match interview at full time, the Argentina international was asked about previous comments from pundits suggesting he would struggle with the physicality of the Premier League, as well as his fierce duel with Traore.

"First of all I always believe in myself and my strength. I know that I am not tall; really, really tall but I will win, I will go with personality for every ball and every duel," Martinez told Sky Sports back in August.

"I sent him [Traore] to the gym, no? No, he's really difficult to play against, this opponent. I learnt from the first one. Because in the first situation he kill me and then I kill him back."

The Fulham forward evidently didn't take too kindly to Martinez' assessment of their battle as he jokingly tagged the United man in an Instagram story saying "Don't worry, we will meet again."

Traore has regularly featured off the bench for Fulham this season so it is likely the pair will face each other again on Sunday when the two clubs meet at Craven Cottage. Martinez was an unused substitute in United's last league game against Brighton, but has started all 18 of his Premier League appearances this term.
