Manchester United make 'first move' for Mathys Tel amid Marcus Rashford approach
Manchester United have reportedly submitted a first verbal offer for Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel, which is now under consideration.
According to Sky Sports and their reporters in Germany, Man United have been in contact with Tel's club since Friday afternoon. This followed the player's request to Bayern chiefs earlier in the week to help secure his exit before the winter transfer window closes on Monday night.
At the same, Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur mobilised in the hope that they could convince the 19-year-old they were the correct destination. Chairman Daniel Levy is said to have negotiated a £50m loan-to-buy deal and with reports claiming he flew out to Germany to seal the matter there and then, though it has since been reported that Tel has rejected the approach.

With the North Londoners dumped out of the race, that reportedly leaves Man United and a number of other English top-flight clubs still in the hunt. Interestingly, Marcus Rashford may prove crucial in the success of this deal.
Sky's report explains Aston Villa to be another 'concrete' option with calls made to Germany this morning. However, as MEN Sport reported earlier they are closing in on the loan of Rashford.
By securing the 27-year-old for the remainder of the season, this would perhaps clear a pathway for Old Trafford chiefs to Tel.
There is no more information provided on Man United's verbal offer, and at this stage 'there is no full agreement'.
Arsenal and Chelsea would stand as the only remaining hurdles. The former have been mooted with interest in Tel amid their search for attacking reinforcements, though the latter have expressed strongest interest of any Premier League club dating back to last summer.
But critically they have not yet made a move this January, unlike Man United, Spurs or Villa, based on the latest word.
Lastly, it is stated that if Tel or Bayern fail to agree to his exit then it is not ruled out that he would remain with his current club.
