Ruben Amorim is yet to make his mark on this Manchester United, yet with the transfer window open for business rumoured swoops on Premier League rivals may help him to do so.

With little over a week remaining of the January transfer window, Man United are entangled in talks for both incomings and outgoings. Whereas departures of those such as Alejandro Garnacho would reluctantly draw benefits, others like Antony getting a fresh start elsewhere may be the best outcome for all.

That is especially for Amorim. The new manager continues to persevere with his new system of play but requires the correct personnel to do so and with time, he shall get there.

Most recently Man United have been linked with moves towards the talent of London Premier League rivals. With that said, MEN Sport analyses the latest transfer news and rumours from Old Trafford.

Maresca on Nkunku

ESPN first reported that Man United are in for Christopher Nkunku this January. Only hours prior Enzo Maresca had been asked about the Chelsea attacker's future.

Via our colleagues at football.london, he first explained the Frenchman's lack of game time.

"The problem, unfortunately, for Joao [Felix] and Christo, the manager plays most of the games with one attacking midfielder and that is Cole Palmer.

"We have decided to play with an attacking midfielder in most of the games, so this is the reason why Joao and Christo struggle to get minutes - not for any different reasons because they are both fantastic players, fantastic guys who work well.

"The reason why is only because most of the games I decide to play with one attacking midfielder in terms of balance. This is the reason why."

Then questioned if this spells the end for both, Maresca hit back: "I am not saying that, I am not saying that. I am saying that I like both but the reason why they struggle is because most of the time I play with one attacking midfielder."

MEN Sport says: These new links to Nkunku are interesting, to say the least. In the past they might have made sense but now? This is a player that is being talked about at a £70m fee, one that Bayern Munich are struggling to meet. He has proven himself an exciting player in the Bundesliga and can play an array of positions, but hasn't exactly done so in the Premier League after 18 months. I question a move to Man United, but not a departure from Chelsea. Maresca knows his player isn't happy and it shows.

Arteta refuses Heaven question

Another player rumoured to be of interest to Old Trafford officials is Arsenal youngster Ayden Heaven.

Having snagged Chido Obi-Martin from the Gunners' youth system last summer, now they are said to be offering terms to a former teammate of the striker's. Heaven, 18, is a defender who has been trusted with his full debut in the Carabao Cup this season, plus has taken part in first-team training throughout the season.

Again, football.london were on hand on Friday, this time at Arteta's press conference. He was asked how disappointing losing the teenager would be.

"I cannot talk about anything," was all he gave in response.

MEN Sport says: There is such an emphasis on homegrown academy talents in this era of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) that Arsenal could only be left red-faced if one of their youth players to join a major rival for the second summer in a row. All they and Man United can do is look after their own interests and hope players make the choice in their favour. Interestingly, Heaven can be offered first-team football more readily than Amorim this season, based on youth player stats during 2024/25. That said, Amorim may be able to change that once his squad is settled in the system next season and beyond.
