Manchester United suffer FA Cup final setback as Luke Shaw injury return delayed
Manchester United are set to be without Luke Shaw for the FA Cup final.
Erik ten Hag has confirmed the extent of the recent setback suffered by the left-back in his recovery from a muscle injury which has kept him out since mid-February.
“Luke is more complicated in this moment,” Ten Hag told reporters on Thursday.
“Let's say there’s less of a chance he will make it but still a very small chance.
“He had a setback, now we have to find out how far it is.”
It has been a disappointing season for Shaw, 28, who has managed just 15 appearances amid a couple of lengthy lay-offs, which will include Sunday’s final game of the Premier League season at Brighton.
United then head to Wembley on Saturday, May 26, for a rematch of last year’s FA Cup final with City.
Ten Hag has endured a hefty injury list for much of the season, but at least recovered Lisandro Martinez, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford to his squad for the midweek win over Newcastle.
Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are two others racing to be fit for Wembley and the England centre-back was rated as having a “fair chance” by his manager on Thursday. Raphael Varane is pushing to make his farewell appearance after also spending weeks on the sidelines.
Maguire and Shaw will be desperate to prove their fitness ahead of Gareth Southgate naming his preliminary England squad for Euro 2024 on Tuesday.
