Amad reportedly faces a battle to save his season after suffering an injury in the build-up to Manchester United's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm).

The 21-year-old Ivory Coast international has been one of few bright sparks from a difficult season at Old Trafford, initially under Erik ten Hag before Ruben Amorim took over the reins in November.

However, The Daily Mail claims that the forward could be sidelined for the rest of the season after being "hurt" in training and faces a spell on the sidelines for the "foreseeable future".

United are 13th in the table heading into Sunday afternoon's visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they will be without Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans and, potentially, midfield duo Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte, as well.

Amad, who had loan spells with Rangers and Sunderland, before establishing himself as a first-team regular at Old Trafford, has scored six goals in the Premier League so far this season, including efforts at the Etihad Stadium and Anfield. Back in January, meanwhile, the former Atalanta forward was rewarded for his rising status, under Amorim, by signing a new five-and-a-half deal with the club.

But should Amad's injury be as serious as first feared, United may be left short in attacking areas after Antony and Marcus Rashford sealed temporary moves away from Old Trafford last month.

Asked about his side's injury situation ahead of this weekend's Premier League clash, Amorim said: "It was a good week until two days ago, we had some problems. We don't have players back - maybe we have one or two issues - but we are waiting. We have one player who is sick, we will see on the weekend."
