'Manchester United will be a real force under Solskjaer' - Tony Cottee

Tony Cottee believes Manchester United’s decision to announce Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment will help the club attract big name players in the summer transfer market.

Speaking on The Football Show, the former West Ham and Everton striker suggested that the Norweigian’s confirmation as manager will make the club more attractive to top stars going forward.

“Ole’s made the point that agents have already been on the phone because players want contracts, they want stability.”

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of players for summer moves including Borussia Dortmund and England youngster Jadon Sancho.

Cottee believes such moves would continue to hit a stumbling block without a full time manager, despite the draw of playing for the Old Trafford giants.

“Manchester United are one of those clubs who can go and buy any player, but you can’t buy those players if you don’t have a manager in place.” He added.

“If I’m Jadon Sancho and United come in, I go ‘yeah, I’d love to play for Man United, who’s the manager next season?’”

Cottee ultimately feels United under Solskjaer will go on to challenge for top honours now the uncertainty surrounding his position has gone.

“Everyone can settle down, they sign players, they will be a real force next year”

Solskjaer’s first game in charge on a permanent basis finished in a 2-1 win over Watford at Old Trafford.
