Arsenal are heading into the summer transfer window with their challenge clearly in mind - bridge the gap to Manchester City.

The Gunners fell agonisingly short of winning the Premier League on the final day of the season after a victory over Everton was not enough to overtake leaders City. Mikel Arteta was clearly disappointed after the match but he sent a defiant message to the fans insisting that his team would get things right.

To do this, Arsenal need to have a good close-season and with this in mind football.london has taken a look at the biggest talking points in the media surrounding the Gunners.

Rashford misses out on England squad

Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford missed out on Gareth Southgate's 33-man preliminary squad for next month's European Championships on Tuesday after a difficult season. His future at Old Trafford is in doubt after losing his cutting edge in front of goal and Arsenal have been linked with taking him away from his boyhood club.

In the wake of the decision, Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit as called for his former club to sign Rashford “right now”. Speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 betting, he said: "Would Rashford be good at Arsenal? Give me the paper, and let me sign it for him right now!

"Rashford in a good environment would be incredible for the Gunners as they all look miserable at United. I saw what happened with the fan and I understand his frustration, so if Rashford wants to leave, he’s more than welcome at Arsenal and the door is open for him."

What FL says: It is difficult to imagine a world where Rashford is not a United player. He is a boyhood supporter of the club and a popular figure in the city. But his form has been so inconsistent that question marks are being raised as to whether he should continue at the club. This alone should be enough reason for Arteta to stay well clear of the forward in the summer but his absence from the England squad suggests the winger is damaged goods. Considering the money Arsenal would have to pay to lure him to the Emirates Stadium too, it is certainly not worth it.

Ramsdale's future in doubt

Football Insider claims Arsenal will complete a deal to sign David Raya from Brentford this summer as they activate their option-to-buy clause. This will reportedly put Aaron Ramsdale on red alert to leave the Emirates Stadium after he has become unsettled by losing his No.1 spot in the Arsenal first team.

What FL says: Often you are reminded about how brutal a world football is and the treatment of Ramsdale has been a sharp reminder of that. The Premier League title race is full of fine margins so you can't blame Arteta for looking at improvements to every position and sadly the ex-Sheffield United and Chesterfield goalkeeper is a casualty of that. At this point, especially if Raya signs permanently, Ramsdale should be looking for a move where he can be first choice. He certainly has the talent to be the first choice for an ambitious Premier League club next season.
