Mike Dean: Premier League referee celebrating Tranmere win goes viral

Premier League referee Mike Dean has been accused of supporting multiple clubs during his time as one of the top officials in the English game, but the 50-year-old’s true allegiances are no longer in doubt.

Dean was spotted by a Sky Sports camera celebrating Tranmere Rovers’ win over Forest Green Rovers in the second leg of their League Two play-off at the New Lawn, standing on a barrier in front of him and cheering with both arms aloft.

Twitter users’ reaction certainly didn’t disappoint.

The Cheshire County Football Association member is known for his unique style of refereeing and was once accused by many fans of appearing to celebrate a Tottenham goal against Arsenal in the north London derby.

He has also been seen hiding a hat-trick ball from Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, sniffing one of his assistant referees before a game at Old Trafford and showing his annoyance at Swansea giving away possession once he had played advantage for them.

Tranmere will play in the League Two play-off final at Wembley against Newport on Saturday 25th May - and with his allegiances now confirmed, Dean will surely be there.
