Liverpool is reportedly considering a move for Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura this summer. The Algerian featured against the Reds in the Europa League earlier this season, scoring in his side's 2-1 victory in Belgium in December.

That was against a much-changed Liverpool side, who had already progressed to the knockout stages, but his performances appear to have caught the attention of Anfield chiefs. According to L'Equipe, 'tentative enquiries' have already been made for Amoura.

He predominantly plays down the middle for Union SG but can also play out wide, with incoming boss Arne Slot known to be a big fan of having multiple attackers in his squad.

The links also come amid uncertainty over the future of Darwin Núñez. The Uruguayan striker has found himself out of the team in recent weeks and fueled transfer speculation by deleting Liverpool-related content from his social media pages.

Liverpool is unlikely to entertain offers unless a significant transfer fee is received, but Amoura has emerged as a possible replacement. Here is all you need to know about the 24-year-old, who is said to be on the Reds' radar.

Background

Amoura only moved to Europe in 2021 with Swiss side Lugano. He started his career in his homeland at ES Sétif but did not make his senior debut until a few weeks before his 20th birthday.

He went on to spend two seasons with Lugano and his form saw the striker get a place in the Algeria squad. Amoura was at the Africa Cup of Nations a year ago as his side failed to pick up a win.

The 24-year-old completed a move to Union SG last summer for just $4.3m (£3.5m/€4m) and has scored an impressive 20 times in all competitions, including his strike against Liverpool. His goals also helped Union SG finish top of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League in the regular season, with three matches left to play in the play-offs to secure a spot in the Champions League for next season.

Transfer competition

Should Liverpool make a move for Amoura, it is likely to face plenty of competition. Brighton is said to be monitoring the striker, with owner Tony Bloom also having a stake in Union SG, while West Ham is also credited with an interest.

French side Marseille is also keen and Kicker claims Amoura has emerged as a target for Wolfsburg. The German outlet does suggest Liverpool would have the edge though, due to its financial advantage over the Bundesliga outfit. Union SG is likely to demand around $22m (£17m/€20m) this summer, which would be well within the Reds' reach, although with other transfer priorities, particularly in defense, it remains to be seen whether they will make a genuine play for Amoura.
