Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah overtook Frank Lampard in the all-time Premier League goalscoring stakes - while equalling Thierry Henry as he reached the 20-goal mark for a fifth time in the English top flight.

The Egyptian winger's legacy as one of the Reds' greatest ever players is already secure, with the Kop hero sitting fourth in the club's all time goalscoring standings. The 32-year-old has an incredible 178 strikes to his name in 287 appearances in the Premier League, with his latest coming against Bournemouth.

The attacker made history once more as he notched the opening goal for the Reds from the penalty spot in the 30th minute against the Cherries. Arne Slot's side were awarded a spot kick as Cody Gakpo was fouled by Lewis Cook inside the box - giving Salah the opportunity to open his account for the day down on the South Coast.

The decision to award the penalty was subject to controversy, with VAR intervening before upholding the referee's decision to award a foul for Cook's challenge.

A statement from Premier League Match Centre on the matter read: "The referee’s call of penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed to have been a trip by Cook on Gakpo. The VAR also confirmed Gakpo was onside in the build-up."

Either way, Salah appeared unfazed as he sent his penalty past Kepa Arrizabalaga to spark the game into life - with this strike his 20th of the campaign so far. This goal meant that took him level with former Chelsea teammate Lampard in the all-time Premier League goalscoring standings in sixth place.

He then was able to leapfrog the ex-England stalwart as he notched his 178th Premier League strike with a sumptuous second half goal versus Bournemouth. The forward lofted a typical left-footed finish past the opposition goalkeeper in the 75th minute to double his team's lead.

The Egyptian winger is adrift of fifth-placed Sergio Aguero by just seven strikes on 184, while fourth-placed Andy Cole sits just ten goals ahead of Salah in the all-time stakes on 187. Legendary marksmen Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Alan Shearer round out the top three, as things stand.

Having notched his 20th and 21st goals of the season versus Bournemouth, this achievement made him the fifth player in Premier League history to hit this milestone across five or more separate campaigns too. In this case, he equalled a feat which previously was achieved by only Shearer, Aguero, Kane and Henry before today.

Before the turn of the year, Salah also became the only player in Premier League history to have tallied up double figures in goals and assists before Christmas. His talismanic displays have fired Liverpool to the top of the league as the Reds chase title glory in Slot's inaugural campaign at Anfield.

Meanwhile, the attacker remains locked in a contract stand-off with the Merseysiders, having entered the final year of his current agreement. With just months left to run on his current deal, the forward will be free to leave the club for nothing at the end of the season unless fresh terms are agreed between both parties.
