Saudi Arabia’s minister of sport has confirmed he wants to see Mohamed Salah make the move to the Middle East this summer.

Salah’s future at Liverpool remains up in the air as he enters the final few months of his contract. As things stand, he - along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold - will be out of contract at the end of the current season, leaving him free to leave Anfield.

He is currently able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club if he wishes to do so, while Liverpool remains in talks with him over extending his stay on Merseyside. Nevertheless, speculation is growing over a move to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Pro League’s interest in Salah has been well documented over the past couple of years, with Liverpool having rejected a $187M (£150M) bid from Al-Ittihad back in 2023. With his contract ticking down, the messages coming from the Middle East have become more brazen as efforts to lure him into a move grow.

Al-Hilal would appear to be the frontrunners for Salah’s signature should he decide to leave Liverpool. The Pro League leaders have already offloaded Neymar this month, a move which has been suggested to be in order to make room for another high-profile overseas signing.

In an interview for Piers Morgan Uncensored, which is set to be released later today, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal has talked up the possibility of Salah making the move to Saudi Arabia, although he has insisted that a deal still needs to be reached.

Asked by Piers Morgan whether Salah is the “big prize” for Saudi Arabia, Prince Abdulaziz responded: “Well, definitely, because if he ticks all the right boxes, even for us, we'd love to have him.

“He's, you know, he's Egyptian, and we have a very good relationship, and we feel like we are one with the Egyptians as well, from our culture and our history and so on. So to have Mo Salah or other players that are good role models would be, you know, a pleasure and a privilege to have in the Saudi League.

“Will it happen or not? That's up to the clubs to decide and to see what negotiations go on.

“But I think that you know, at the end of the day, that you know coming back to the league is that we want the league to be within the top five, watched and commercially driven leagues, and strong leagues that people around the world aspire to want to play there, in the Saudi League, and I don't see that there is any harm with that and and we can collaborate with everyone you know in Europe to make sure that we can deliver on that.”

Liverpool.com says: Saudi Arabia’s interest in Salah is no surprise, and no doubt we’ll be hearing a lot more about a potential move for him over the next two or three months. The decision will ultimately come down to what Salah wants to do, and whether he still feels he has unfinished business at Liverpool and in Europe.
