Paul Merson makes bewildering Arsenal transfer suggestion amid Liverpool title challenge
Paul Merson has stirred up controversy with a surprising transfer suggestion for Arsenal if the Gunners are going to be in contention for the Premier League title.
Mikel Arteta's side remain six points behind the Reds in this seasons campaign with the possibility of the gap being increased to nine points should Arne Slot's side defeat Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
With Arsenal failing to bolster their side during the January transfer window, the pundit has sparked a debate on which $74m (£60m/€71m) star the Gunners should pursue in the summer if they want to remain title contenders next season.

Merson believes Arsenal should make a move for former Tottenham star Harry Kane. The England international scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Spurs, including 213 in the Premier League, and has maintained his impressive form since joining Bayern Munich.
Kane has netted 72 goals in 73 appearances across all competitions for Vincent Kompany's side, with 57 of those coming in 51 Bundesliga matches. Despite a record-breaking first season in Germany, Kane is still chasing the trophies he moved to Bayern for, although the Bavarians are on course to win the Bundesliga this season.
A recent report from the Daily Telegraph also revealed that Kane has a release clause in his contract that will become active in January.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I keep on saying Isak but there’s not a lot around. I’d go Harry Kane. I’d pay the £60-odd million for Harry Kane. I know it’s not my money. Like Sol Campbell didn’t (go to Arsenal)?
“He’s got that clause. If he wins the league which he should with Bayern now but when he does that I think that’s it and come back. If he thinks he can beat Shearer’s record at Tottenham, but I don’t see the point coming back to Tottenham.
“There’s no point just coming back just to beat that and I don’t think he’d have as much of a chance of beating that than he would at Arsenal.”
