Premier League clubs have paid out more than £260m to football agents during 2018-19. That’s a massive £49m increase on the previous 12 months.

Figures published by the FA on Thursday showed that Liverpool spent the most in the top flight. A staggering £43.8m between 1st February 2018 and 31st January 2019.

That’s nearly £17m more than the next highest spending club, Chelsea, who spent £26.8m.

Manchester City (£24.1m) and Manchester United (£20.7m) were the other clubs to dish out more than £20m to agents throughout the year.

Interestingly fees to agents went up despite the amount spent in the transfer market falling by more than £500m compared to the season before.

Championship clubs spent more than £50m which is an increase of around £8m. Stoke, Swansea and West Brom, who were all relegated from the Premier League, were accountable for 35% of that.

In League One Sunderland spent more than half of the £5.5m in outgoings.
